I haven’t had time to blog about myself till now. First I’d like to tell you something more about my background before I start writing a blog post about my work at Kumina and how we manage servers and their services with Puppet and why Tim Stoop and I visited PuppetCamp.
From origin I’m a civil engineer. All my studies in the past where architecture and engineering related. So are my work experiences. I’ve worked as draftsman at a local architect agency. Before that I’ve been working on EPBD at a company called Cycle Systems Projects for over a year where I labelled around 12.000 houses at several housing associations. Before that, I contributed at the Royall BAM as a trainee when they started with the build of the 1st phase of production line at Solland Solar.
Now you might be curious why I made the step from construction towards IT. Actually, the whole economical crisis contributed to it. At the local architect agency where I worked they had to cut some people out due the economical crisis. I was quite bored there, same people, every day was the same, etc etc. So I raised my hand when they asked us “Are there any volunteers which want to quit their job?“, everyone was watching me at that time because I was one of the superior engineers. Basically I quited there without any prospect view towards a new job. I’ve been unemployed for one hell of a long month before I came in contact with Kumina. At that time I wasn’t aware of what kind of work they did. I didn’t even know how many people where working there etc. So I e-mailed them a short summary with my experience with Linux / BSD and their daemons. Before I knew it I got a call from Kees Meijs to come and visit Kumina at their office in “De groene toren” and do a simple, but short job interview. Around September 2009 I received another phone call from Kees with good news. They selected me to start working for them. It made my day at that time
